Kanauti Jhumke are a constant reminder of the 50s for us. Both our Dadis wore these on "special occasions" only. Weddings, poojas, ceremonies meant taking out their precious gold kanautis (chain earrings) that would normally be kept safety hidden away in pouches in their Godrej almirahs. Great pains would be taken while wearing these and aligning them juuust right. The ultimate compliment would be - "Bilkul Madhubala lag rahi hai"
The stunning filigree work that is a beautiful representation of the classic floral motifs that are such a big part of Indian designs, is just absolutely stunning.
